Fruit farming promoted in Nigeria

Nigeria's government is committed to encouraging fruit farming through the expansion of arable crop estates, reports the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Toyin Suarau. The Tertiary Education Trust Fund has criticised the call to extend its intervention to Colleges of Agriculture and research institutes, saying it would stifle the fund and render it ineffective.
This was contained in a statement issued by Malam Aliyu Na’Iya, the TETFund’s Acting Executive Secretary, and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja.
The statement explained that the exclusion of the categories of institution mentioned above was in compliance with the TETFund Act of 2011 as amended.
